Facility Maintenance Specialist

The position reports to:
Solution Center Manager

Under the direct supervision of the Solution Center Manager, the Facility Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the general maintenance and cleaning duties for the BLM GROUP USA Novi facility. The Facility Maintenance Specialist will maintain the entire BLM GROUP property and ensure it is kept in an orderly and clean condition.

Essential Functions

The duties listed below are the specific duties and tasks that someone in this position must accomplish (i.e. why the job exists.)  These are the core responsibilities of the position that cannot be modified or eliminated.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the level and/or class of this position.

  • Ensure that the BLM GROUP USA building and grounds are maintained, kept clean, and in an orderly condition.
  • Maintain janitor storerooms in a safe and clean condition.  
  • Perform cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, etc.
  • Maintain and sanitize all restroom facilities, clean and sanitize toilets, and ensure all disposable and hygiene items are properly stocked and disposed of in a timely manner.  
  • Maintain a supply of hand towels in all required areas of the facility at all times.
  • Empty any trash, waste baskets, and recycling bins, daily and clean as needed.  
  • Provide any other cleaning duties as needed, including but not limited to, dusting, cleaning windows and mirrors, changing HVAC filters, cleaning air vents, ceiling tiles, and carpet cleaning.
  • Ensure both the guest and employee breakrooms are maintained and cleaned in an orderly fashion, including cleaning up after customer/student lunches.  
  • Track and maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, spare parts, etc. 
  • Perform minor building repairs such as needed.
  • Maintain property grounds as needed.  
  • Ensure all conference rooms are clean and stocked as needed on a daily basis.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot equipment systems (HVAC thermostats, etc.). 
  • Operate floor scrubber and any other cleaning equipment to ensure the cleanliness of the entire Solution Center as well as shipping and receiving areas. 
  • Refer to a separate list of specific job duties. 
  • Coordinate and work with third-party vendors for major repairs and services.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.


Basic requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Prior experience in a custodian, janitor, maintenance, or similar role required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required, technical degree preferred.
  • Commercial electrical certification preferred.

None

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be reliable with a keen eye for detail and possess manual dexterity.
  • Must have knowledge of the use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
  • Knowledge of handling and safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
  • Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Technical skills to perform simple maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Experience using hand and electrical tools.
  • Time management and inventory management skills.
  • Ability to identify safety hazards and violations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and bend for long periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions for long periods of time.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Able to effectively use the Internet.
  • Ability to work with all levels of team members.

May occasionally lift or carry up to one hundred fifty (150) pounds with assistance.  May occasionally have to climb a ladder up to thirty (30) feet.

The incumbent works primarily in an office environment.  This is not a remote position.
